What is Bactrim used for?

Bactrim ds is a generic brand name of the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim often called co-trimoxazole. Bactrim is a combination of two antibiotics: It is one part trimethoprim (a synthetic drug), and five parts sulfamethoxazole (a sulfonamide drug).

Bactrim Uses: In order to reduce the risk of the development of drug-resistant bacteria to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) tablets and other antibacterial drugs, Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) tаblеtѕ should bе used оnlу to trеаt or prevent infесtiоnѕ that аrе рrоvеn оr strongly ѕuѕресtеd to bе саuѕеd bу susceptible bacteria.

Bactrim works against bacteria in the following types of infections:
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Morganella morganii, Proteus mirabilis, and Proteus vulgaris.
• Middle-ear infections (acute otitis media) in children if the causal organism is bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae,
• Chronic bronchitis when it worsens (acute exacerbations) and is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
• Diаrrhеа саuѕеd bу Shigеllа flеxnеri аnd S. sonnei infесtiоnѕ; and traveler’s diarrhea, caused by enterotoxigenic E. coli
• Pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis jiroveci.

It’s also used to treat, and as a preventive antibiotics for people taking immunosuppressant drugs or HIV/AIDS patients. Also, Bactrim is also sometimes prescribed for other types of bacterial pneumonia, for acne, and for preventing urinary tract infections.
Bactrim dosage: Bactrim tablets are white and round and contain 80milligrams (mg) of trimethoprim and 400 mg of sulfamethoxazole. Bactrim double strength (Bactrim DS) comes as white and oval solid tablets, containing 160 mg of trimethoprim and 800 mg of sulfamethoxazole.

Administer the medication as directed by your doctor even if you feel better after a few days. Failure to do so or stopping the medication suddenly can give rise bacteria that are resistant to treatment.

Bactrim Side Effects

The most common side effect of Bactrim is nausea and vomiting. Inform your doctor if it worsens or does not stop, or if you experience: Stomach ache, Vomiting, Anorexia, or loss of appetite. Serious Side Effects of Bactrim
