What is Cialis (Tadalafil) used for?

Cialis

Cialis is the brand name of tadalafil, a drug that is prescribed for men and is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH).

Cialis can only be obtained as the brand name; the generic Cialis is not yet available. Each Cialis tablet contains 2.5, 5, 10, or 20 mg of the active ingredient, tadalafil. Cialis for daily use comes in 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets. It is prescribed for oral administration.
Do not take Cialis with nitrate medications as this can result in a sudden drop in your blood pressure. Also, Cialis should not be taken with Adcirca, which is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. The drug should not be taken with other similar drugs at the same time and make sure you always inform your doctor of any other medications that you are on.

Seek medical assistance if the erection persists for more than a few hours or if it is painful.

Cialis vs Viagra

Cialis (tadalafil) is similar to Viagra (sildenafil) since they both help to increase the flow of blood to the penis, thus enabling a sexually aroused man to hold an erection for a longer duration. The major difference is that while the effects of Viagra last for up to 4hours, the effects of Cialis lasts for up to 36hours. This is why Cialis is often referred to as “the weekend pill”.

CIALIS DOSAGE

The dose of Cialis prescribed will be determined by your doctor and you should not take more or less than the prescribed dose. The drug is taken orally with or without food according to your doctor’s direction.

Cialis will only work when there is sexual arousal, it does not cause an erection on its own. The drug should be used prior to sexual activity.
The usual dose prescribed for erectile dysfunction(ED) is 10mg daily as needed before sexual activity. The maintenance dose is 5 to 20mg daily, before sexual activity based on individual characteristics as defined by your doctor.

In the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), 5mg of Cialis is prescribed to be taken orally once a day at approximately the same time.

Cialis can also be prescribed as 5mg orally once daily in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia. In this case, the drug is taken at approximately the same time every day without regard for the time of sexual activity.
All doses should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. However, in case of an overdose which could be observed as pain or numbness during sexual activity, contact your physician.

CIALIS SIDE EFFECTS

Some patients experience allergic reactions when taking Cialis. Seek for immediate medical assistance if you experience any of these allergic reactions: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat.

Stomach pain or discomfort
Indigestion and burping
Acid reflux/heartburn
Flushing of the face, chest or neck
Stuffy or runny nose
These side effects usually go away on their own as your body adjusts to the medication. However, if they persist or become worrisome, contact your doctor for solution and/or alternatives.
The serious side effects of Cialis include:
Pain spreading to shoulder or arm

These side effects should be reported to your doctor or pharmacist immediately they are observed. If an erection lasts for longer than 4 hours, seek immediate medical attention to avoid injury and further complications.

It is not advisable to take Cialis and alcohol as this can further increase its blood pressure lowering effect, resulting in postural hypotension.
