What is Flomax?
Tamsulosin is a prescription drug; available as a brand called Flomax. It’s available as a capsule that you take orally. You may need to take it with other drugs as part of combination therapy. It is used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). With BPH, the prostate is enlarged but isn’t cancerous. Symptoms include trouble urinating, and a frequent or urgent need to urinate that often occurs at night.
Tamsulosin (flomax generic) belongs to a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles in your bladder and prostate. This helps improve the flow of your urine. This drug can cause orthostatic hypotension. It can make you feel lightheaded or faint. This majorly occurs when the dose has been changed.
Take this medication orally as directed by your doctor, usually once daily, 30 minutes after meal same time every day. Swallow this medication whole. Do not break or open the capsules.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Tamsulosin (generics for flomax) may also be used to help your body get rid of kidney stones by urination.
Flomax for women: it has also been used to help treat bladder problems in women.
Do not use this medication to treat high blood pressure.
Tamsulosin may cause a sudden drop in your blood pressure, which could lead to dizziness or fainting. This risk is higher when you first start taking this drug, after your dose is increased or if you restart treatment.
In case, you missed you doses for several days, contact your doctor to see if you can continue or need to be restarted at a lower dose.
